The Dutch topped the medals table in short track at the Winter Games while local favourite Arianna Fontana wrote her way into the record books by taking her medal haul to 14.

Maier edged out Switzerland's Fanny Smith by 14-hundredths of a second to claim gold from the four-woman final. Maier picked up the 22nd overall medal for Germany at the Milan Cortina Games. It was only the sixth gold for the European country and the second that wasn't earned in the sliding sports.
